Real Questions We Hear From Patients On

Foot Pain / Foot Drop

1.What causes foot drop?

Foot drop occurs when the muscles that lift the foot become weak due to nerve damage. This is often caused by compression of a nerve near the knee or sometimes by irritation of a nerve in the lower back.

2.Can nerve damage cause weakness in my foot?

Yes. The nerves that control the foot and ankle muscles allow you to lift your foot when walking. If those nerves are compressed or injured, weakness can develop.

3.Will foot drop get better on its own?

Sometimes mild cases improve over time, but many patients benefit from evaluation by a physician who can determine the underlying cause.

4.Can surgery help me walk normally again?

In many cases it can. If a nerve is being compressed in the leg, treatments such as injections or outpatient nerve release procedures may help restore function.

The right diagnosis changes everything. If you’re still searching for answers, the team at Neuropax is here to help.

Still wondering what might be causing your pain?

Many patients who come to Neuropax have already seen multiple doctors and tried several treatments without success. In some cases, persistent pain may be coming from an irritated or compressed peripheral nerve that hasn’t been identified yet.

If you’re still searching for answers, a peripheral nerve evaluation may help uncover the source of your pain.
